Easy Steps to Remove Paint from Hardware

A few weeks ago I posted about a fantastic dresser I finished for a sweet client of mine. I decided to make that blog post about painting the hardware the RIGHT way because I actually had issues with the first go around. I honestly don’t know what happened (I wish that I would have taken a picture of what the handles looked like the first time I painted them.) They looked HORRIBLE. They had little paint bubbles all over them. Like I said, I don’t know what happened because I followed the same steps that I do for every piece of furniture. It was 95 degrees the day I left them out to dry so maybe the heat played a part in it.

So if you ever have this happen to you or you purchase a piece of furniture and you want to remove the paint on the hardware, follow these simple steps. It’s so easy!

Fill a pot with boiling water and then add the handles. Let them “cook” in the water for about 20 minutes.

Remove the handles from the hot water and the paint should just peel right off!
(Sorry these pics are super dark. I was taking them at midnight.)
At this point, follow the directions from this blog post and you are set to have gorgeous looking drawer pulls. (Just don’t let them dry outside in scorching temperature!)

I loved the way they turned out!
